Demonstrates the value and dynamism of arts education. Kathleen Gould Lundy, an arts educator, leads a group of teachers who, through dramatic performances, illustrate innovative teaching techniques that inspire and engage students.

The Annual Founder’s Dinner

as we celebrate the spirit of the holidays and the opening of the Schoolhouse in 1849 for the poor children of Corktown.
Highlights include a traditional Canadian Christmas dinner with wine, seasonal reading, and carol singing. Enjoy fun and upbeat music performed by Danny’s 7.
We will be honouring our 2017 Heritage Champion, Jim Leech, C.M.
Our emcee for the evening is award-winning investigative and consumer reporter for Global News Toronto, Sean O’Shea.
This event is a fundraiser for the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Foundation (11927 2862 RR0001). Tax receipts will be issued for the maximum allowable amount.

Values and Visions in Public Schooling: What is Schooling For?
On November 14, please join us at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse for the first talk in our education series.
This first in a series of four panel sessions is an in-depth discussion of the aims of public schooling. Distinguished historian Paul Axelrod sets the context by recalling the origins of public schooling in Canada.
The panel includes:
- Annie Kidder, Executive Director of the advocacy organization, People for Education
- Jonathan Kakegamic, Principal of First Nations Junior and Senior School of Toronto
- Steve Alsop, Professor of education, science, and environmental sustainability, York University

Values and Visions in Education: Designs for Learning
Our second panel, on November 28th, is an informative discussion on how design, architecture, and the construction of schooling spaces affects and reflects social values, community life, and the interests of neighbourhoods.
This panel includes:

- Shannon Kyles (Mohawk College), “School Architecture Through the Ages”
- Josh Cole (Queen’s University), “Baby Boomers and the Building Boom: Post-war School Construction in Ontario”

On the passing of Councillor Pam McConnell, the Foundation would like to offer sincere condolences to her family. Pam was an advocate for public education and a good friend to the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. She will be missed.

This education series looks to the history of universal public schooling to reconsider contemporary education.
Expert panels ask what schooling is for, why we design schools as we do, whether schooling today is equitable for all Canadians, and how the arts can transform classroom teaching.
Parents, students, educators, community members, urban planners, architects and heritage enthusiasts are invited to take part in a unique opportunity for dialogue.
