Weddings and Private Events

The Enoch Turner Schoolhouse is a beautiful heritage venue for weddings, corporate events and workshops, film shoots, and receptions!

Many important milestones have been celebrated here at the Schoolhouse through the years. A beautiful ochre brick building, designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, this gem of early Toronto’s architecture provides a comfortable atmosphere redolent of a bygone era. There’s simply no other place like it.

The West Hall (size 48′ x 48′) can accommodate up to 150 guests.  The Schoolroom (size 32′ x 34′) and the Salon (size 27′ x 27′) are perfect for a cocktail before dinner.  Our facilities may be booked day or evening. However, we recommend booking as far in advance as possible to ensure the date you want.

Wedding Ceremonies and Receptions

Married couples fondly recall being married in this charming and beautifully restored Victorian Schoolhouse built in 1848.  Many couples hold the ceremony in the Schoolroom, have a bar in the Salon and the reception in the West Hall complete with baby grand piano. One of four top-of-the line caterers provides gourmet food, attentive staff and expert attention to detail and our recommended florists can put blooms on every table. Our thoughtful, experienced staff will help you obtain your special occasion permit. There’s no corkage fee. We can suggest DJs or bands, photographers, limousines, wedding cake makers, entertainers, and more. Our party suppliers are some of Toronto’s best and most reputable with rates to accommodate your budget. We’ll make your wedding a day you will cherish forever.

Inside and out, the Schoolhouse is ideal for wedding photographs. Daytime photographs taken inside can capture the wedding party against a background of exposed beams and light streaming through the gothic style windows. At night, the exposed beams add textural warmth to the softly lit scene. The old brick Enoch Turner Schoolhouse walls offer an historical backdrop for your outdoor wedding photographs beside the Schoolhouse flowerbeds or in the small park just outside!

Consider the Schoolhouse for a reasonably priced wedding and reception. That’s partly because of where we are… outside the expensive downtown core. Then again, we’re a not-for-profit museum without high overheads. Bring your own bar supplies for the caterers to uncork (no corkage fee!) and serve. After the reception, they’ll pack up what’s left for you to take home.

While Saturdays have always been the preferred day for weddings, customs are changing as people’s lifestyles change. Now it’s not uncommon to have an evening wedding during the week or on Sunday, saving hundreds of dollars. Whichever you prefer, it’s important to book as far in advance as possible.
