Gianna Lauren:
Originally calling Alberta and Ontario home, the Halifax songwriter Gianna Lauren is a project of atmosphere, guitars, and warm voices. Lush arrangements and measured vocals create a haunting ambiance.

Joshua Van Tassel:
Joshua Van Tassel is a sideman, producer, composer and sonic landscaper. He regularly performs some of Canada’s best song writers such as Great Lake Swimmers, Amelia Curran, Sarah Slean, Donovan Woods, Rose Cousins, David Myles, Sarah Slean, among others. Joshua is also quickly becoming known as a go to producer, having worked on albums for Sarah Slean, David Myles, KIRTY, Rosie And the Riverters, Christine Bougie, Megan Bonnell, and more.

With his solo career Van Tassel has a built a reputation as a producer and composer of electro-acoustic music that is both highly sophisticated and easily digestible. His music, which has been featured on the Outdoor Life Network’s program “Departures” and “Descending”, is a tapestry of traditions; the familiar plucking of folk music floats amongst drum machines and ambient field recordings, driving bass lines melt into flowing synth melodies. He has been nominated and won numerous ECMA and Nova Scotia Music awards, and is currently at work on a full length book/novella entitled “Crossworlds” to be released in March 2018. Joshua is also the producer of the respected CBC radio host Laurie Brown’s podcast “The Pondercast”.

Join Coralina R. Lemos for the launch of her first book, “Corktown: The History of a Toronto Neighbourhood and the People Who Made It”. After years of research, Lemos shares her knowledge of the neighbourhood, its people, establishments, and institutions. The book includes the history behind thirty-eight street names, over 90 images, and a deeper look into the areas built history – many explored for the first time. as we celebrate the spirit of the holidays and the opening of the Schoolhouse in 1849 for the poor children of Corktown.

Highlights include a traditional Canadian Christmas dinner with wine, seasonal reading, and carol singing.

Our emcee for the evening is award-winning investigative and consumer reporter for Global News Toronto, Sean O’Shea.

This event is a fundraiser for the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Foundation (11927 2862 RR0001). Tax receipts will be issued for the maximum allowable amount.
